Many people were puzzled when Barack Obama did not choose Hillary Clinton as his Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2008 Presidential Election. They knew that Hillary Clinton had won the hearts of many during the Presidential Election. Hillary Clinton had proven that she had large influence in the United States. They just thought that Clinton was the most obvious choice for Barack Obama’s Vice-Presidential running mate. As you delve deep into the circumstances, you will discover that Barack Obama, did, in fact, make the right decision by not selecting Clinton despite popular demand. There are two main reasons why he was forced to come to that decision. Obama had to select Joe Biden as his Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2008 Presidential election instead. By him choosing to select Joe Biden as his Vice-Presidential candidate rather than Hillary Clinton, he was able to make the greatest strategic move that was best for him and more importantly, that was best for the American people.
1. One reason why Barack Obama did not select Hillary Clinton as his Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2008 Presidential Election is because the two candidates had slightly different focuses during the election while they were both running for President. Hillary Clinton had very specific issues that she wanted to face her Presidency focusing on, while Barack Obama had very distinct issues that he wanted to work on. There could have potentially been a clash between Obama and Clinton if they were to run together. It would be hard enough for Obama to deal with the issues that he was going to work on, so taking on the platform of Clinton, as well, would be way too much to handle. This would be counter-productive to both the causes of Obama and Clinton.
2. The second reason why Barack Obama did not choose Hillary Clinton as his Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2008 Presidential Election is because Clinton did not offer the level of experience that Joe Biden was able to offer. One of the areas that voters felt that Barack Obama could be lacking was in foreign affairs. Clinton simply did not have the experience that Joe Biden had in this regard. Clinton wasn’t going to be of help to him in this aspect of the election. Although women issues were at the center of the campaign for Hillary Clinton, Clinton was not the only prospect that made great advances for women. Joe Biden had also made some tremendous advances in improving the law in regards to advancing women’s rights. Not to mention, Joe Biden had much more experience in the world of politics.
